
Curtis Whiley
Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Upper Hammonds Plains Community Land Trust
Curtis Whiley is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Upper Hammonds Plains Community Land Trust (UHPCLT ) and a sixth-generation African Nova Scotian from Upper Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia. With more than 12 years of public service, he has worked extensively in housing, land titles, and community development, including as former Director of the Land Titles Initiative with the Government of Nova Scotia. In 2022, Curtis founded UHPCLT to advance community ownership, housing justice, and sustainable development, and in January 2026 he was appointed as its inaugural CEO.
Curtis holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Entrepreneurship and an MBA in Social Enterprise Leadership. As a speaker, advocate, and social entrepreneur, he brings a powerful voice to conversations on housing justice, land equity, community empowerment, and long-term community stewardship.
